Making friends; the one-sided kind.

Sometimes you make friends, sometimes you have to pay for friends.  Google puts most of its SERP stock in how many incoming links go to your website. It pays to have friends in this situation.  Google relies heavily on how many "votes of confidence" via incoming, one-way links to a website when determining SERPs. Get one-way, relevant, incoming links to your website and your SERP will start to improve.  It is the one fundamentally important thing an owner, director of marketing can do on their own for their website's SERP performance.

"Content is King!"

Essentially, the rally cry of SEO consultants and search engine gurus.  Content, words, ideas, original, fresh all appeal immensely to Google, Yahoo and now Bing search engine crawlers.   The more relevant and fresh your content is, the more Google, Yahoo and MSN want to promote your website through the SERPs (Search Engine Results Page or Position).  See Page Rank explained.

Adwords or PPC can be your ally...really!

If there is a competitive keyword phrase that you just can seem to get anywhere near the first page results - use Adwords or Pay per click campaigns.  If you want to sell more of something particular - use Adwords.  If you draft one ad for one keyword phrase - you can save money than if you draft one ad for 100 keyword phrases.
